You realize that there are women living in this country, working as nannies and raising other people’s children, and sometimes they don’t see their own children for YEARS. Their children may be back home in the Philippines, for example, and the nannies don’t have the money nor the vacation time to visit them for an extended period. So even today women are in a similar position to Sophia: having their own children raised by a friend or family member while they are forced to work elsewhere – sometimes raising somebody else’s children.
