is driving a car really that hard???

The car was a 1930 Ford Model A. It was a manual transmission which, of course, is harder to learn than an automatic. Additionally, the transmission of that time is considerably different and harder to learn than today's contemporaries. So, even if you've mastered the modern manual transmission, you could not jump into the Model A and speed off. For example, ever hear of "double clutch"? You gotta know it to drive it.
Additionally the mechanicals of that time required some strength. No power brakes and double clutching took some additional feats of footwork strength and coordination.
My first attempt at driving a 1930 Model A was like re-learning manual shift.
So, for that time period, for that "frail" of a person who was not focused, the driving lesson experience would be frightening!
Unveiling my first ever signature... Now where did I set my drink?
No, especially today. Back then automobiles weren't constructed quite the way they are today. Today, you can let go of the wheel and, if your car is aligned, continue in a straight line. It wasn't that way with those old cars. Not only were the cars light years behind the modern car, but the roads, especially in rural Amaerica, were little changed from the horse and buggy days. And at that time, the people using the horse and buggy and automobile were overlapping.
Life is pain. Anyone who says differently is selling something.
