That's it? The legendary breakfast club?
Pfft.
It was okay I guess but talk about overrated. Major bonus points being granted to it from 80s nostalgia heads.

How can anything be either overrated or underrated?
It's about vibes. I wasn't even in school yet but somehow it still gives me nostalgia for 80s high school.
shareThe more I watch it, the more I appreciate it. I didn't care much for the film the first time around either, now I love it (and I didn't grow up in the 80s)
shareI grew up in the 1980s. However, I was only around 9 at time this movie came out. To me, this is the only one of John Huges films that really holds up well. Yes, they are all enjoyable, but most are VERY MUCH a product of their time. This movie still works because it's in an isolated school setting. Also, I think that it holds up more than the rest of his films due to its characterization and how all of us can relate to at least something in each one of the characters.
I actually preferred "Some Kind of Wonderful" to most of his other films. "16 Candles" was funny, but completely unrealistic, I never liked Pretty in Pink. I'm not sure why. It just never clicked with me. "Weird Science" was another funny, but dumb movie- Chet was great in it though. I actually hated 'Ferris Buellers Day Off." Although I have recently been changing my feelings about that movie.
I am a schoolteacher and a group of 4th grade boys (from two different classrooms) played hooky for a day, and I had to feign outrage that they did such a thing. The teacher from the other room was freaking out to me over the phone and I had to be like "Yeah, I can't understand why they decided to go and hang out at a friend's house for the day and didn't want to come to school. The nerve of them..." :-/
At the end of the school year, I was walking down the hall going to class and one of the boys from that group was also in the hall and I said to him "So, how was your day off?" He said, "It was great." All I could think was yeah, I bet it was, I wish I had been there too instead of this place. He was a smart kid. So, he knew just by the way that I asked him the question that I was never mad about him and the rest of them for ditching school. That day when I found out I thought about "Ferris Buller's Day off" and how much better that would be than being in school. So, lately I do have a greater respect for Ferris...
Another film that I can still relate to is "The Wild Life". It was written by Cameron Crowe as a sequel to "Fast Times at Ridgemont High". However, he couldn't get any of the original cast to return. So, he rewrote it into a much darker and less goofy film. Although, some of it is still REALLY goofy.
I watched it when I was 13 and it blew my mind. Back in 05.

shareI disagree that it’s just 80s Nostalgia. Yes it is nostalgic for those that grew up during that era, but for us it’s just one of the dozen brat pack teen films of the era. It’s still relevant today, not because of is an our nostalgia, but because it keeps resonating with the younger generations, in a way that those other movies don’t.
