George was big into sci-fi...

Do you think he would've found it suspicious 22 years later in 1977 when Star Wars came out that "Darth Vader" visited him in 1955?

reply

He'd assume the same alien visited George Lucas, wouldnt he.

Darth Vader might not have been called Darth Vader in the altered timeline if George already used the name in one of his stories.

That was a SCARY 'alien' to George. It's natural to forget scary things so you can function. Like he would pay attention to his NAME, in a panicky situation like that, and when things turn all right, all he has to do is focus on the sci-fi stuff again - except that now he has a girlfriend to form a family with and all.

I'd say the name 'Darth Vader' drowned under everything else in George's mind and life during those twenty two long years.

Also, I just want to remind people that think 'wouldn't the parents wonder about Marty's looks', that you wouldn't remember what someone looked like that you only met a FEW TIMES 20-30 years ago, and since they have seen Marty grow from an alien mutant-looking (all babies look like grotesque, alien mutants, and they all look the same) generic monster to the face they know and love, that is what they remember - Marty's face is just Marty's face, there's no connection.

Though.. "Marty.. such a nice name!" is a bit of a weird comment, since she named her first kid 'David' (or Dave) anyway. What was she doing, saving it for her second male child (and how did she know they were going to have one (or so many kids)?)

reply

David could have had a more significant meaning to them than Marty. There's no reason that Marty wasn't in consideration when naming their first child, just that David was the first choice, for whatever reason. Then when the second son came along, Marty was the next name up.

reply

Everyone is trying to explain this away, but the post makes a very good point. Marty wasnโ€™t thinking ahead on this one.

reply

Marty could have created Star Wars before Lucas got to it. In fact, Marty could have created all of the Hollywood blockbusters before they were made.

reply

He would just think it was a coincidence

Given that whoever visited him that night made references to things such as Darth Vader and the Planet Vulcan years before they became a thing, it would only reinforce what he thinks happened that night. He believed it back and 1955, the visitor had knowledge of future things that George would clearly remember because it inspired him to write a book based on years later.

I'm not sure what's being suggested here, what would he be suspicious of?
