Did Marty already know he would be time traveling?
When Stickland says in the beginning, "No McFly ever amounted to anything in the history of Hill Valley," Marty replies, "Yeah well, history's gonna change."

shareNo, it is just the scriptwriter advertising that Marty will time-travel.
Biff
Yeah as far as Marty knew then , he simply meant that he had high hopes that his band would rock and he'd one day be a famous musician and 'that'll show 'em'. It's a writers-to-audience funny bit foreshadowing not only that he'll time travel , but possibly change the McFly reputation. But since this movie was made with no intentions of a part II and III, it most likely only referenced that George McFly would amount to something, a successful book author.
shareJust another case of foreshadowing, isn't it?

The main reason that Santa is so jolly is because he knows where all the bad girls live
Marty thought he was going to be the next Huey Lewis.
shareApart from Marty's confidence in his band, he rightfully wanted to stick it to Strickland. And as almost everyone else stated, that part is simply great foreshadowing. At any rate, to think Marty had somehow figured out about Doc's invention (and already decided that he was going to use it for himself) is interesting.
