Did Marty already know he would be time traveling?

When Stickland says in the beginning, "No McFly ever amounted to anything in the history of Hill Valley," Marty replies, "Yeah well, history's gonna change."

reply

No, it is just the scriptwriter advertising that Marty will time-travel.

Yeah as far as Marty knew then , he simply meant that he had high hopes that his band would rock and he'd one day be a famous musician and 'that'll show 'em'. It's a writers-to-audience funny bit foreshadowing not only that he'll time travel , but possibly change the McFly reputation. But since this movie was made with no intentions of a part II and III, it most likely only referenced that George McFly would amount to something, a successful book author.

Just another case of foreshadowing, isn't it?

The main reason that Santa is so jolly is because he knows where all the bad girls live

reply

Marty thought he was going to be the next Huey Lewis.

reply

It was nice foreshadow, but Marty had no flue until he arrived at the mall.

reply

I agree that Marty had no flue. And that's very unfortunate if his house has a furnace.

Apart from Marty's confidence in his band, he rightfully wanted to stick it to Strickland. And as almost everyone else stated, that part is simply great foreshadowing. At any rate, to think Marty had somehow figured out about Doc's invention (and already decided that he was going to use it for himself) is interesting.

reply

This movie assumes that there are encompassing time dimensions in which these ones exist.

Strickland was a big dick. A principal should be encouraging his students, not telling them they'll never amount to anything....remember the last 3 letters of principal spell "pal."
