I can't stand reading that no one can play Anne as well as Megan did!

Seriously she looks nothing like Anne of the book. Anne is described as painfully thin and I felt so sorry for her in a way I never felt for Megan's performance. I just can't see her as Anne..

anne of the books was modeled after an american woman named evelyn nesbitt. and i believe megan was chosen for her dedication to the character and the fact that they were only looking for red haired canadian actors to play the part.

and colleen dewhurst as well looked nothing like the marilla described in the books.

I very much enjoy Follows' interpretation of Anne but I agree that her Anne does not directly match up with the Anne of the books. Follows' Anne has a bit of an edge that Montgomery's Anne does not develop until the later books.

In the book Anne is much sweeter from the beginning. Follows' plays an older Anne much faster so I understand why people may not think of her as the definitive Anne.

Personally, she's the best I've seen but I understand why others may think differently.

On the appearance thing, no actor can ever look exactly like we imagine their book character should. Sometimes it's enough to put one off. Sometimes not.

Erm, wasn't Megan Follows 16 or something when she was cast for this role? And isn't Anne supposed to be a kid and not a teenager?

Megan was 16. She was playing the ages of 12 up to her own age of 16. Schuyler was a couple of years younger than her and Jonathan was a couple of years older. There's not much info on the other child actors but I'm guessing they were around those same ages.

Here's a video of Megan discussing playing different ages, sometimes several different ages in one day:

Well, too bad, because you'll have to read it one more time. No one could play Anne as well as Megan Follows did. Just saw the remake with Martin Sheen as Matthew and I didn't care for the young actress who played Anne -- and there were so many other things I didn't like about that version. Seriously, the world is going to devote itself to making you happy, and the vast majority of viewers think Megan Follows was superb, so prepare yourself for more upset.

I have read all of the books, and Follows was a perfect Anne. Her performance will probably never be equaled, let alone surpassed. It's one of those cases where an actress is an exact fit for a role. As for being "painfully thin", she looked thin enough to me. At any rate, it's a trivial detail.
