Videotaped

I wish they would have filmed them instead. The quality difference really is apparent on a modern HD TV.

They did film them.

If that’s true I hope they remaster and retransfer them using modern digital equipment. The episodes just don’t look very good on a newer TV. The original filmed Twilight Zone episodes look better. I know about six episodes of the original were videotaped and the difference is noticeable. Although it does adds to the eerieness of an episode like Twenty Two.

The episodes in question weren't filmed. To save money, they tried videotaping instead of filming, and we can clearly see the result. Because the rest of the originals were filmed, the resolution exceeds HDTV standards, and the original filmed episodes are beautifully rendered on blu-ray and HD streaming.

Unfortunately, the six episodes that were videotaped will forever be shackled with a low resolution image with pool black levels. Maybe 50 years from now, a computer will be able to extrapolate and generate an HD quality image from the source videotape, but that technology doesn't exist now. All we can do is enjoy them the way they were taped.

It's particularly unfortunate for me, because two of my favorite episodes were videotaped: Night of the Meek and Static.

YEAH...OH WELL.

I believe that these episodes were filmed on film, then transferred to video tape for editing.
Apparently, the original film was never kept, which resulted in the inferior video tape quality being the only existing master.
