Where is Everyone?

I already know the answer, but I'm asking anyway. These boards were constantly active on IMDB, but now there is only like five of us talking on here. I know that we are all scattered on different sites now and that it will take much time and patience for this new and still under construction site to be what IMDb once was; however it makes me wish I would have utilized the IMDB message boards more. I was guilty of being more of a lurker than a poster these past few years, but it's not because I was posting on social media which I know some chose to do. Well lesson learned. I know things will grow with time. Rant over, lol.

reply

Well I'm here! Guess I should post more. This show was a favorite of mine. Some of the episodes had me laughing so hard I cried, especially Sophia's commentaries. I recall the time she complained that her son Phil sent her a Nativity scene made out of cheese for Christmas.

"I'm a Catholic. I can't spread a Wise Man on a Ritz cracker." I almost fell on the floor when she said that.

Don't worry about ranting, just post, post, post. LOL

reply

Lol you are right! Yes that episode was pretty hilarious! Sophia has some of the best lines on the series!! I looked just a while ago, and apparently I previously spoke with you on the Mary Tyler Moore Show board. :)

reply

Oh yeah, I remember you! So post some more on these shows. I'll answer!!

The Sophia comment made me laugh so much. I still remember the episode because I was rocking my son to sleep. And when Sophia made her comment I was trying so hard not to laugh out loud. I had to laugh quietly so as not to wake him up.

Lol! That was hilarious! "Sweets for my sweet." "Cigars for later."

I hated this show when i was a kid and now I like it maybe it's because I learned to appreciate it more

reply

I remember the show from NBC when I was a kid; however as an adult I have more of an appreciation for it as well. I love how it shows that the fun doesn't stop as you get older despite whatever you have been through. They really got into some teenage angst situations at times! Also it dealt with important issues facing women of that age, and they were really ahead of the curve back then (i.e. dealing with same sex couples and their marriages as well as artificial insemination, the AIDS virus). When I was a kid I viewed the show as four older women sharing a house, but over the years I began to see it through a completely different perspective. Plus now I understand all the sex jokes about Blanche that went over my head back in the day, Lol!

reply

LOL Speaking of teen-age angst situations, I just watched an episode last Sunday that showed flashbacks of some of their crazier situations.

One of my favorite scenes takes place in the drugstore where the girls are all buying protection because they are going on a cruise with their boyfriends. The clerk gets on the P.A. system for a price check on condoms.

'Hey Joe I need a price check on some condoms. These three ladies are buying the King George prophylactics!!"

That scene still makes me laugh.

reply

"Condoms Rose! Condoms! Condoms! Condoms!" LOL!!!!!!!!

reply

"Calm down lady! Did you just get out of prison?" LOL!

Parody done on that scene by drag queens.

Thought it was funny.

reply

That was incredibly funny!! They were great, and they all did a great job on their look. I must say I was impressed with the Dorothy makeup!

reply

It's funny that you would mention "Dorothy make-up". I never saw the parody mentioned but it reminded me of other drag queens.

Did you ever see The Birdcage with Robin Williams and Nathan Lane? Hilarious movie. At the end of the film they disguise the Senator (Gene Hackman) as a woman and take him out through their Drag Club to avoid some tabloid reporters.

I saw that movie several times and I always thought that Gene Hackman in drag was the homeliest "woman" I ever saw. He reminded me of someone, but I couldn't put my finger on it. Finally it came to me, Bea Arthur! I thought it was odd because I actually always thought Miss Arthur was very attractive, very tall and elegant and more of what is termed a "handsome" woman rather than cute.

It was like Gene Hackman was doing a bad Bea Arthur impression. lol

reply

Yes, I enjoyed that movie. The maid was played by the actor in so many other things I also liked. Hank Shearer I think the name is. Recently on Ray Donovan. Also had his own show called Huff and of course The Simpsons as well as Tracy Ulman. The late Anton Yelchin played his son on Huff.

reply

Oh I think you mean Hank Azaria! He was hilarious in that movie, stole every scene that he was in.

Maybe you have his name mixed up with Harry Shearer. Also did a lot of funny stuff.

reply

Knew I was going to mess up the name. Takes me a while to learn a character name let alone the actor's.

Thanks!

reply

LOL You have no idea about the number of characters/actors whose names I have messed up over the years.

Hank Azaria was SO funny in that movie. "Why won't you let me be in the 'cho'?"

reply

Lol

reply

It is definitely a really great show

reply

It was an instant classic that's never been out of syndication. Sure it had some bad episodes, but the jokes were great and the adventures fresh.

reply

Agreed

reply

I have to admit, when I was younger I just thought it was a dumb show about old people, but when I got older, I began to appreciate it as well. Some of the innuendos are so silly, but still funny. And it's such a cozy show! But only the earlier seasons, later seasons are really dumb, I can't believe how much the quality of the writing dropped.

reply

I think all series have nad episodes but since its nostalgic it still pretty good even though its bad

reply

I'm here and I'm a big fan of the show.

Glad to have you here Faridah! Welcome!!
