Gene Wilder's wife's affair with the daughter's boyfriend!
It's only a quick scene, but this is such a strange twist... Love it!

I don't think she was having an affair, so much as the the boyfriend was trying something with her. She seemed to just have the "uh...kids" attitude. At least that's what I gathered from it.
shareExactly. Btw during the end credits, there is a still which shows the two of them arguing outside the house, so that subplot obviously had at least one more scene, but it probably wasn't going anywhere.
shareDisagree. She definitely had a fling w/him, imo. It was probably a one off thing that he wanted to continue but she didn't. The fact she ultimately let him leave his hand on her breast tells me they did have an affair.
shareAgree. If they weren't having an affair she would have slapped him.

That scene was so weird! I didn't really know what to make of it. Did they used to have an affair and she dumped him and he wasn't over it? I mean, she was pretty casual about the fact that he was grabbing her breast! That's not the way one would typically act, especially when we're talking about the guy being the daughter's boyfriend!

Yeah, the way that slimeball was grabbing her breast while she just casually stood there, does makes it seem like there was once a love affair between the two. And if there was, well that's one really strange twist and makes the mother a freak.
But who knows, that creep wasn't exactly normal. So it wouldn't be surprising if his obsession with her was caused by simply being in her presence... or not.

I always thought she just saw him as a naugty kid, like trying to loko up her skirt etc. as well. She didn't seem to take him seriously, or consider him grown enough to seriously reject him.
And didn't their daughter introduce him as her "new boyfriend"? That makes the possibility of an affair very far-fetched. How would the wife know him?
Never be complete.
It's my favorite scene in the whole film besides any with Gilda in it. It was freaking hilarious. "I'll scream!", "So will I".
shareIt certainly is a strange scene and alluded to the idea that both partners were straying, adding a whole new dimension to the plot, but is quickly forgotten about everything else that happens. I just think it was written badly, he shouldn't have been groping the mum with her standing there letting it happen unchallenged. The kid definitely had a dark side as evidenced by the way he spoke to the dad earlier, and the mum should have been aware of that and shut down his actions immediately and threw him out of the house. I think the writer (Wilder) was just going for a bit of slapstick to keep it interesting but it was too much.
