So Kyle Reese is sent back from the future to 1984 by the future John Connor, so why didn’t he warn Sarah that in 1992 another cyborg would be sent back to try and kill John Connor again.
Or had that T-1000 being sent back not happened in the future timeline that Reese was sent back from?
So how was the John Connor from the future who sent Reese back born? Did he just have another father in that timeline ? Or is it on just some sort of time loop where Kyle Reese was always sent back to 1984 ?
The 1984 flow or the 1992 flow? Or the flow that both timelines have now been removed?
I thought, probably incorrectly, that the first two timelines had been rubbed out? But, the OP makes the point that this doesn’t stack.
But then the theory also goes that the original timeline will always exist and that any changes made to it will cause the paradox/alternate timeline, which will then run in tandem.
People make the point that time travel could never be invented because once it’s been invented then it will always have existed. But, how do we know if our universe is a paradox or not? How do we know or not if 9/11 was a result of a changed timeline?
My point is that nobody truley knows the answer about time travel and its implications, so why bother spending mental energy thinking about it. I believe that traveling back to the past is impossible, like there is a cosmic recorder somewhere taking down everything.
See my update on the paradox / parallel universe theory above. Sorry, I added it as you replied. But it raises the question regarding cosmic reader theory.
Upon watching Jimi Hendrix 's performance at Woodstock on youtube,a viewer noticed the paltry attendence, maybe only 200-300 people left, since that was the final act. The viewer than made the statement that time travel was not possible, because if it were, there would be over 1 million time travelers watching it.
But the second you time travel back to a point, you create an alternate timeline just by being there, a parallel. The original timeline still exists.
So there would be 1 million alternate timelines with people watching Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock. Maybe in the original timeline there was only 2 people watching Hendrix at Woodstock. Maybe Jimi Hendrix is the result of an altered timeline. Maybe Woodstock was created in a parallel.
Maybe WW2 was the result of a changed timeline. Maybe Hitler was the result of a changed timeline.
Skynet was invented one way in a timeline. The Terminator returning in 1984 and leaving behind the technology created another timeline where Skynet was invented in another way. This could play in infinite multiples. Or ripples in time as they are also referred to.
As soon as time travel is/was invented you are instantly going to have alternate time across millions of parallels. So we would never potentially know of it’s existence.
Maybe space and time and it’s creation is the result of time travel. Maybe the Big Bang was going back.
You have to open the mind up to the possibility that nothing we have seen is orginal. That everything is the result of time change.
We are programmed to view time in the past present or future. But time could also move laterally. In parallel.
It is fun thinking about the infinite possiblities of time travel. To me I believe in 1 true timeline, creating multiple timeline-universe seems like that would require a great deal of energy, although I don't think Marvel could live without them.
But we are vering way off the OP's original question which I have a very simple answer...Was the T1000 successful in his mission? No, so why warn her?
John would have no reason to tell Reese about the situation in 1995. It would've distracted him from his mission. Not to mention Reese would be freaked out that John would send a Terminator to protect his younger self.
Mostly because in 1984 the creators were not yet planning the second movie (or at least they were not sure about it). So this is really a question about the second film, not first: Why wasn't it explained in the second movie that Reese didn't warn Sarah? I personally answer this question easily: For me, only the first Terminator movie exists as I hate all the sequels and pretend they do not exist at all.
No, hating the entire action genre is a bit too much for me... It would be impossible not to rewatch 'True Lies' or 'Heat' once in a while. I will probably even go see the upcoming 'Dark Fate' movie (expecting the worst).
I think there are 2 possible answers to the question about Kyle not warning Sara about future Terminators.
#1 - Like kwestmo, I think T1 was the complete story - we know the entire loop and it never changes. There was only one Terminator ever sent back and subsequent movies are set in another timeline.
#2 - there is always the possibility that although Kyle thought the time machine had been destroyed, there really wasn't any way he knew for sure and we since don't know what happened either, other terminators could have been sent through after Kyle that he wouldn't have known about. Perhaps there was a second time machine in another location. If this happened it would be the same time line but we just don't know anything that happened after Kyle was sent back. (Totally forgetting what happened in TGen.)
