How about Tyrese Gibson as Petersen, I can see him as ideally fit for the role. Or Taye Diggs as CJ. For some of the other minor characters like Sgt. Washington, I would suggest casting Bernie Mac, he somewhat resembles John Hancock (the original Sgt. Washington in the film version).
For Capt. Taylor, Kurtwood Smith would be a good choice.
Sorry but Mos Def is overrated. Has anyone heard about him playing Smalls (Don Cheadle's character from Devil in a Blue Dress)in the Devil in the Blue Dress sequal? I mean he's good but come on.Anyway the person that should play Peterson is Anthony Mackie. He'd be perfect for the role.

Bokeem Woodbine for Smalls...I don't know. Woodbine can be an imposing figure when he is on screen. Smalls wasn't that imposing.
