Jake and Sam Were Shallow Too...

Seriously, if the movie were made now by today's standards we'd really hate Jake and Sam.

Sam wanted Jake because of his status, hot car, he's cute etc.

Jake wanted Sam clearly not just because she was interested in him but basically because he's tired of screwing his presently steady girlfriend.

Yes, but the whole movie is shallow. It wasn't designed to be over analyzed and picked apart or proven logical or not. It's a comedic fairytale with one dimensional characters composed of an assortment of stereotypes, but it's very funny and that's the whole point. I'll admit that Sam was whiny and irritating and Jake was morally questionable in a glaring way, but the movie has to be accepted for what it is; a classic Hughes 80's teen comedy. It's a genre all its own and will never come again in quite that way. If you want an 80's teen movie with chacters that possess a bit more depth, try The Breakfast Club, although Molly's character in that one is even more unlikable for those of you who found Sam unappealing.

One of the entertainment sites, either NickiSwift.com, Looper.com or Zergnet.com, said that there are things that only grownups, or anyone would be shocked at..I though modern kids (especially in the middle of the country) loved these..especially Grease type movies like these.

(And it isn't like films like these don't exist, now, The Fudd, Nerve, a #1 during 2016's summer, etc.I love them both)
