could this movie fly 30 years later
It was good, but how in the hell could this be greenlit in this day of political correctness? Good thing this happened in 84 not 2014 or 15.

shareThere's no way it would've been. One of the reasons I prefer physical media (dvd, blu-ray) is because I can own titles like this without the threat of a company ceasing to allow streaming. The Dukes of Hazard is a family show... and taken off the air because of the flag atop the car! If that's the direction this country is going what's next? All In The Family? Blazing Saddles? This movie? Anything goes nowadays.
shareYou were proven correct by the Dukes Of Hazzard movie where a WHITE girl said to the Dukes, "hey A**hole, you're late for your KKK meeting!".

Well, a remake was slated for about a decade ago, and it's not as though the 00's were un-pc.
However, there is another point to consider. Over the past 15 years or so, nerds have gained respect from society at large. The 'mainstreaming' of the tech industry has turned nerds into rockstars. The old stigmas and slights are no longer there (which is great for those of us who lived during the 'dark ages' portrayed in the film).
In short, the motivating factor for the movie no longer exists. Nerds have ascended to their rightful place at the table.
So true. The whole jock vs nerd mentality is gone now. Being a nerd isn't a bad thing anymore, in fact I find that there are a lot of people who try and pretend to be into what would be considered traditionally "nerdy" things nowadays to fit in.
shareno it wouldn't be made today, atleast not in the same way it was made in the 80's.. 99% of the humor would be neutered down, and the Nerds would be replaced with another group.
I don’t think it’d fly today, no, which is one of the reasons why I love it. It encapsulates a very specific period in time that can’t be repeated.
shareThis movie would not work today. First of all society has become so soft, that any of the stereotypes as funny as they were would cause up roars.
But the biggest reason this film would not work today is the fact that the nerds won. When this film came out if you asked any guy in high school or college would they rather be a professional athlete or CEO of some tech company pretty much everyone would have said professional athlete. This film came out right about the time computers were becoming accessible to the masses.
Today being a computer nerd is deemed cool. If asked any high school boy would you rather be a tech CEO or a professional athlete vast majority would say CEO. I was a jock in high school and today most of my friend and myself included would much rather our kids be computer nerds than jocks.
Actually what would be funny if they did "Revenge of the Alpha Betas," where the jocks are abused and laughed at my the nerds and constantly pranked and they plot their revenge.
I like that idea of the movie "Revenge of the Alpha Betas"
shareRevenge of The Low T Males.
