Cliche that blind guys have superhuman hearing
So John Malkovich is blind. Somehow, he can hear when the cotton workers from out of town have driven into their area. He can tell, by voice, who the KKK people are

It’s not superhuman. Blind people feel other senses more intensely.

I went to school with a blind man who could recognize if someone he knew was nearby, based on the sounds of their footsteps and breathing. It was damn near impossible to sneak by him.
It's a proven fact that blind people, especially those who were blind since birth, have a more finely tuned sense of hearing. When you can't see, you need to rely on your other senses more to survive and get you through the day, so your brain adapts to better accommodate those remaining senses. Studies have been done to show that blind people have a more active auditory cortex (the part of the brain that processes hearing) than sighted people. Not "superhuman", just better adapted.
