The scene where Jenifer is outside in darkness wearing a white night gown and follows the lightening bug into the bushes while the heavy metal music is playing was amazing. The entire scene is so hypnotic and really feels like Argento. I wish there had been more moments like this in Phenomenon.
shareI love how the music always fits the scenes, especially heavy metal, very fitting and important to the magical tone of the film, completely subverting human preconceptions what should be or shouldn't be, some moments come and one feels uneasy of how unprepared they've been, many layers of cinema speaks their own language here. The scene you describe is just one of them. The film I return to the most in memories, even though I prefer his later films more often as his craft got more refined and expressive of his true intentions.

I'm a big Jennifer Connelly and Dario Argento fan.
This is my second favorite Argento after Suspiria. Though it's neck-and-neck these days, I saw Suspiria a few years earlier and have watched it more often so I have more nostalgia for it. I liked Phenomena from day one but it's also grown in my estimation upon rewatches whilst Suspiria was A1 from the beginning and hasn't improved or worsened.
I can definitely relate. There is something about Phenomena that grows on me after multiple viewings over the years also.
I would also say, although a straight giallo, I do place Tenebrae (1982) up there with Phenomena and Suspiria. It could just be my nostalgic feeling for the film but I do love it.

Labyrinth (1986) - I love this film, it is a sort of for children but it's wholesome and a ton of fun. A Jim Henson film, great puppet work, features David Bowie.
The Hot Spot (1990) - Neo-Noir directed by Dennis Hopper, also starring Virginia Madsen and Don Johnson. Great film. One of my favorite non-Horror films.
Mulholland Falls (1996) - Another Neo-Noir, great film. Another of my favorite non-Horror films.
Dark City (1998) - Neo-Noir Sci-Fi...starring Keifer Sutherland and William Hurt. Very good film and definitely worth checking out.
Id watch anything with Connelly in a nightgown.
