Is Kim Basinger Always This Terrible?

I've seen Kim Basinger in a few things over the years, and she never really stood out for me actingwise, one way or the other. But I thought she was absolutely, world-class horrible in this movie. Is she always this bad an actress, or was she just off her game here? She was pretty bad in all of her scenes, but in the scene where she's in the hospital room with Roy trying to convince him to throw the game, she's so bad that they really should have just cut out the scene entirely.

Or am I missing something in her performance here?

I didn't have a problem with her in this movie, but her hospital scene wasn't the greatest I agree. I thought she did a good job in LA Confidential years later. I don't recall her embarrassing herself in Never Say Never Again but in Bond flicks you expect eye candy and little else. Those are the only films I remember seeing her in.

No, she's really this terrible in most all of her movies. The best she can do is be filler and not make the movie worse. She never actually makes it better. To make matters worse, didn't really think she was that attractive here either.

I agree she is pretty unconvincing. Plus I can't understand a word she says.

I didn't think she was that bad in this movie. I thought she did a terrific job in LA Confidential.

She was tons better in L.A. Confidential, I thought. I only saw part of it but she seemed to be more comfortable and more "real" somehow.

I'm surprised you never comment on her performance in No Mercy. She was excellent.

She was excellent in 9 1/2 Weeks, also.

No, I was serious. I thought she was excellent. And no one ever mentions her in this, or this movie at all. I haven't seen it in a long time but I remember thinking she had great chemistry with Richard Gere.

She's never been a great actress, in my opinion. Just a pretty face. I didn't even see what the big deal was about her performance in L.A. Confidential either. It's an awesome movie, but I didn't think her acting was anything special in it. I think Hollywood just wanted to give her an Oscar for something because she had been popular for a long time.

Thought she was great in L.A. Confidential and Nadine, and good in Final Analysis and No Mercy, as well. Didn't do too much more than scream in Batman and can come off a little too ditzy for my taste, but I still like her.

Basinger's best movies are probably LA Confidential, 8 Mile and Batman.

She was OK, but who would have thought that out of all the members of that cast, she would go on to win an Oscar.
