Cool movie, but that ending sure was damn abrupt (spoilers)

The great aging scene passes and they escape the time vortex, see Earth, and I'm all excited about the final scene where she finally gets to meet her dad, and we get to see the future Earth and hear last one-liners from our heroes, but then all of a sudden the credits roll!

At first I was stunned and then I literally said out loud: "This is a joke, right? We do get a story wrap up, right? They are about to stop rolling any second now, right?"

Did they ran out of money, or what?

So anyway, except the unintentionally depressing "boy/mummy/daddy" robot scene and this damn abrupt ending (I don't recall if I've ever seen a more abrupt ending in a movie, not counting cliffhangers) it was a good watch.

I remember that exact same thing when I saw it in 1984. Everyone laughed all the way through and then said they didn't like it because it just stopped rather than ended.

Speaking of films centered around a protagonist named "Jason", the ending of JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS did the exact same thing to me. I was extremely frustrated that so many loose ends went without being tied up, and so soon after a wonderful climactic battle scene.

Still, I'll take it over the ending of RETURN OF THE KING, which just kept going and added an extra 20 very unnecessary-feeling minutes to the movie.

Yea, I thought "the great aging scene" was hysterically funny & that the ending was ABRUPT too!

I thought, that's it?! 

I was expecting a slower-paced ending.

If makes you feel any better and if you see the new Star Wars movie, well... It's kind of like the extended ending of this film. Except they aren't looking for the girl's dad... or are they?

According to IMDB the original ending had the pirates arriving on Earth, and flying over (then) modern day LA. Thus makng the movie happen not in the future, but in the Earth year of 1984. Ugh! I'm glad that they cut that ending.
