That wouldn't be considered subtext. That racism (if we're going to use a word that has a thousand different meanings) is on the surface. I happen to disagree with the opinion that the gremlins themselves are supposed to be mocking black culture, but that would be the subtext (whenever leftists "see" racism in something, they're actually just revealing their own racism--for example, the dummies who keep claiming Orcs in Lord of the Rings are some anti-black stereotype. Just blatant projection...)
