Worst Film Music Of All Time Contestant

If this had been made with a decent score I reckon this movie would NOT be the subject of constant derision. I fully acknowledge all its silliness, however it's not -that- bad if you can divorce yourself from 'the book' (which it has nothing to do with.) And in some areas it's quite interesting.

BUT... I'm thinking hard about a -worse- film score in modern movies and I can't come up with one right now. The soaring 80's guitar hero theme (repeated ad nauseum) is such a joke... It's akin to 'Flash Gordon' but without the humour.

Try imagining without soundtrack. It's a much better movie. Not great, but not awful.

The score is one of the film's great strengths.

Agreed

This. I loved the soundtrack.

What are you smoking, the score is fantastic.

Agree. I thought TOTO did a great job. Especially since I didn't think music scores would really be a strength for them since they did good regular rock. I still remember most of the themes

Check out my thread entitled "Music Trivia". It has links to You Tube vids of Toto doing some of the Dune music live.

I have to agree that the score is fantastic and very memorable, but at the same time it was excessively used throughout the whole movie almost to a nauseam. I mean how many times you've heard it play over and over in the movie? I got tired of hearing it by the end of the movie. I think they overdone it.

I like the "Triumphant" beat in the Big Battle piece most of all.

I'm another to agree that the score was really good.

Toto didn't have a ton of commercial success, but they were some of the best studio musicians of the era, and they did some neat work on this film. I especially enjoy the song Take My Hand - much different than the stuff on their other albums.

The music by Toto was awesome. :)

reply

Better than the stuff they actually play with their band.

reply

Exactly. The incredible thing is just how the soundtrack is so different from their pop music. And so much better as well.

The score is great. The beginning piece, while Irulan is doing her introductory voiceover, is one of my favourites from any film.

reply

This film score rocks! You don't know what you are talking about. All I hear from you is pretentious drivel.

reply

The score is absolutely fantastic, minus the end credits that sounds like something from a 'serious' episode of Family Ties.

"WTF you talking 'bout, Willis?!"

While the movie was still in theaters, I ran out to a Tower Records and bought the LP soundtrack... and much later, bought a copy on CD.

One of my all time favorite movie-music soundtracks, up there with Blade Runner, Star Wars, and 2001...

The end theme, 'Take My Hand' still brings a chill up my spine, as it did the very first time (in the movie, I mean...)
