is maitland such a bad guy?

he deals drugs and had mikey killed. but mikey stole from him in the first place.

Maitland is a criminal. That makes him a bad guy.

Maitland employed a toadie who, through his total incompetence, allowed Foley to wreck the buffet at the Harrow Club.

Was it this morning?

Is this the man...?

Anyway I have the scene open right now... A few questions:

- Victor and Cuz are just hanging out. About to have lunch... And, I mean, do you really need to have lunch with your henchman?
- When Axel threw Cuz.. they lost some of the fruit and salad items—a lot of orange slices. But the good stuff (including the whole roast pork) was on the opposite end of the table and still intact. So.. did he really wreck the buffet at the Harrow Club?

Not completely sure, but from what I know about henchman (from watching 1966 Batman), henchmen don't wear suits but wear T-shirts with their names emblazoned on them. I'd say that cuz was probably not a henchman but Victor's bodyguard.

That might depend on whether you're a vegan or not, but there exists the possibility that the chief was given an exaggerated version of what happened or that perhaps he himself exaggerated the goings on at the Harrow Club.

Still, I wonder how often Penguin hung out with his henchmen in 1966? I get working together... but I would bet Penguin had other people he chose to be around in non-work situations.

I would have liked to have seen Victor have a dinner date with a nice lady friend.

We don't know how much Mikey actually stole, but he had a stack bonds which we have no idea on the value. It didn't seem like too much, though it could have been. Should he have done it, of course not, did he deserve to die because of it, of course not. Should he have known that Mr. Drug Seller would kill him over it, yes. Does it make it right to kill him over it, no.

Maitland kills people. Does that make him a bad guy? What?

Mikey described them as "bearer bonds". He had a small stack of maybe 20-50 or so. Denominations vary but they could be worth $10K or even $100K each. He figured the amount of bonds he took was small compared to the amount of bonds that were there (and maybe figured they wouldn't miss them), but it could have been a LOT of money he took.

But I agree that no matter what the amount, a drug dealing killer like Victor would have Mikey popped. What didn't make sense was that they didn't kill Foley at the same time as Mikey.

Yeah I can't remember if we actually see any amount written on the bonds. I don't think he knew how much they were valued at, but I imagine he thought they weren't worth too much as you stated. I would think that if he knew they were around 100k apiece and he was stealing a few million total that he would not have taken them, but then again, Mikey wasn't too bright.
