Was Edward James Olmos on the wrong show or just a better actor ?!?!?!?!

He was very intense in "Vice" as if he was in the wrong type of show or he was a much better actor than everyone. Everyone else were animated .yelling, demonstrative. Lt. Castillo walk softly but carried a big stick. Sometimes, I thought he was some sensei. It was like Vanessa Redgrave in Cruise's first Mission: Impossible. She appeared later on near the end of the movie was on screen for about 5 minutes but she shifted the whole mood of the film.

Olmos was in a different acting UNIVERSE from the rest of the cast, and the rest of the cast was not bad. He reminded me of what Pauline Kael wrote of Scott Glenn’s performance in Drugstore Cowboy: “He looks like he ejaculates bullets.”

Pauline Kael was an actual movie critic, completely unlike these asshole movie REVIEWERS you find on YouTube and all over this site. “I think . . . “ A genuine CRITIC does not THINK. S/he DEDUCES. Sheesh.

Olmos was very good in his role. Sure. I'd say "in a different acting UNIVERSE" is hyperbole.

The other cast members were good too.

He was a great addition to the show. Gave it gravitas. The first few episodes had a different cornball captain and the feel of the show was totally different.

Yes. Gravitas. That describes an important facet of his character. He was good for the show.

Yes...I think the original captain was played by Gregory Sierra, who's most remembered by playing Julio on "Sanford & Son." As much as I liked Sierra, Olmos was just tremendous as Castillo. He was awesome!

You are not wrong. In one episode, Castillo showed that he was indeed a "sensei" and that he was a master of martial arts!
