To Original (1983) fans only

I just want to get an idea of you on here.
I watched Auf Wiedersehen, Pet on it's very first night back in November 1983 and have loved it ever since, constantly rewatching it for 25 years now.
As I've said on my other posts it's still my all-time favourite television programme and even when I still say it is my older brothers and family or friends wonder how it appeals still SO strongly after 25 years.
Nothing comes close to it's number one spot on my favourite TV of all time.
I wondered what it does for you other men (and women) here. Why it's still so constant, what is it's enduring appeal to you?
For me, first and foremost it was the cast. They hit all the top notes the casting group. Tim, Kevin, Jimmy, Gary, Tim, Pat and Chris were the 7 best actors to play those parts.
And obviosuly the writing was top notch.
Just like people state what are iconic figures from other TV and film to me Oz's brown leather jacket, Wayne's red and blue baseball jacket and blue hair and basically the hut are striking images and enduring in my mind. I always thought everything about it was perfect. The cast, the writing, the set, the clothes and the original airings (Fridays 9pm ITV).
Anyway, just wondered if my fellow die-hard, ardent fans still vividly imagine the show and love it as much.
Also Im interested to know what you good people also like aswell as Pet being your number 1 show.
My other favourite TV is;

2; Only Fools & Horses
3; Shameless
4; Game On (series 1 only)
5; Black Books
6; Father Ted
7; The Professionals
8; Minder
9; My Name Is Earl
10; This Life
11; 24 (1st 3 series)
12; The Office
13; Burn It
14; Armstrong and Miller
15; Shooting Stars

I'm 36 now, but still remember being 7 in 1983 and watching it, only certain scenes however....

I still watch it now almost 30 years later, and the show is still and always will have massive appeal to me. I never tire of watching it, and I think it is now one of the UK's leading cult drama shows of all time.

Long may it reign.

I was 14 when AWP first aired, and remember coming home from my local youth club and sitting down in front of the tv to watch the first episode wondering what the title meant. Fell in love with it instantly and watch both series one & two at least once a year.
I think it's enduring appeal to me is simple really, the cast is incredibly strong, in many cases defining the actors careers, and the storylines are high quality. Also, there are enough cast members that the writers were able to pair different people off for certain episodes, which was genius. So for example you can have Barry & Wayne dominating one episode, Oz & Wayne in another, Barry & Oz in the next and so on. Never gets boring that way.

Well, I've worked on building sites, and worked abroad (not at same time), and sometimes in grim conditions. I can relate to some of it.

What appeals to me? The main characters are well drawn and acted, and the script's good.

It's not "sci-fi", it's SF!

I wasn't born when it came out but it is one of my all time favourite TV shows. I've watched every episode of the original series (many times) and it still makes me laugh now.

The real test for me is does a show stand the test of time, or is just a walk down memory lane?

Focusing only on Brit shows, Pet has definitely not aged. The acting, plots and writing are as fresh as always. The Professionals by comparison has dated but is still a great watch. Minder has stood up surprisingly well. The Sweeney like The Professionals has dated but is still excellent.

But Pet is the champ. But only the first two series; yep, I'm in that camp.
