Faithful

These are generally quite faithful to the original stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. There are a few exceptions (The Eligible Bachelor, The Master Blackmailer, and one or two others, for example) but they are usually quite true to the original stories.

A few stories that were left out, include A Study in Scarlett, and the Valley of Fear, but even with these omissions, Granada TV has created a marvelous series.

I remember a later episode that strayed from the source material but it was due Jeremy Brett's poor health I believe, the only other gripe I have is if I remember correctly Watson never married in this? I haven’t seen The Sign of Four in years.

These were by far the closest adaptions though with a fantastic portrayal by Brett as Sherlock Holmes!

Hi Gary. You’re right in what you say. It may interest you to look at the threads that appear under “The Return of Sherlock Holmes” “The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes” and “The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes” as your thoughts are covered in more detail there. “The Reigate Squires” is the story that I should like to have seen adapted.
