This Would Make a Great Remake

A thought just hit me: 'WarGames' would be a good option for a remake. Considering how far technology has progressed since 1983 (e.g., the Internet, laptops, amazing computer graphics), the possibilities seem almost limitless for a remake. The only question now is which actors/actresses would be right to play the title roles? Sorry if this topic has already been discussed.

It wouldn't work because the innocence of the main character is completely lost. Back in the early 1980's computers were just starting to get into the home and business. Video games were still a new concept so chasing down a game company and blindly falling into a government agency is unbelievable. Today the main character would have to be a hard core character and would be too savvy to not know what they were getting into.

Nah, I don't think so. WarGames was a product of its time. The cold war Armageddon threat coupled with the novelty of early model home computers was what made this movie's story stand out so well. There was a certain charm and originality to that which would get totally lost in today's age of generic internet hacking poindexter geeks.

He was my C.O. in Nam. CIA listed him as MIA but the V.A. ID'd his M.O. and put out an APB.

Please!!! This movie is a classic! No remake should ever see the light of day!! However, i do wish they woulda made a sequel, where David married Jennifer, and somehow, with some sort of espionage plot, David went back to hacking into computers again.

I don’t think so.

In addition to the tech issues mentioned, this ain’t 1983, the year of The Day After and other TV specials on the fear of nuclear annihilation. I lived through it. Marching Younguns shouting “No First Strike”. Believe me, back then it was Topic One. Probably the main reason this project was developed.

The remake could happen but David would have to be a more sophisticated hacker to break into military systems. The enemy could be North Korea this time. I have no idea who could play the roles since I don’t know many great teen actors. Broderick and Sheedy were relatively unknown when this came out.

No, thanks. We're sick of remakes, even if you're not.
