How come Barry Convex explodes?

In the scene where Max is shooting Barry Convex he kind of explodes from the inside and out... why is that? Does he has the "tumor" growing in him? Or why is his body reacting the bloody way that it does?

- Does anyone have an explanation for this?

I think everyone is mission the point. Videodrome physically causes the body to change not just in a hallucinatory manner. In this case he really did shoot cancer bullets into his body and he really did implode from tumors and people actually did see that happen.

Hmm, strangely the mallet thing on the end of his arm, and then his subsequent explosion made me assume it was some kind of grenade that fused with his arm. Is this even a possibility?

reply

Yes - it is the type of grenade you see in WW1 films.

i think some are reading into it. i always took it as he already had the tumors caused by videodrome in him when max killed him. this would be why convex was the bad guy, he was afflicted for some time already.
