I didn't get it

I just watched this film after hearing of it for many years. I'm a huge fan of Rick Baker's work and enjoyed the FX greatly.
I guess I kept expecting some sort of explanation, plot twist or maybe it was all a dream, but that didn't happen.
I'm not some troll who's gonna yell "WORST MOVIE EVER!", but it just went over my head. (IMO)

I agree with Anaraksoasis. It's about the media and Tv shaping our personality->reality. It's ok and the practical effects are very nice but that's about it.

You get it instantly, it's like a drug

It's one of those films you either love or hate...

I am replying to thread from 2012 but anyway. I watched for the first time 2 days ago with no idea beforehand what it was going to be about.
I really didn't think it was that hard to get, it's about how the media you consume can affect your personality.

Be patient. Some films grow on you. My experience with the film was when I first tried watching it, as a university undergrad in the late 80's, I stopped halfway through--it was at the time alternately too boring and strange for my tastes. At that time, the only experience I had with Cronenberg's work was the much more commercial The Dead Zone, which I loved. Having had much more experience with his films, I tried again recently and loved it.

To this day I can still watch either; "The Dead Zone" or "Videodrome!" They are cult classics and I love 'em both! 

I think this film was ahead of it's time, but I can understand why it isn't for everybody. There's much fetish stuff going on besides the overall plot, and it can get a bit gross in parts, but I also think it's a film that has something to say.
