In some ways, this fourth part/third sequel to "Dirty Harry" is almost like...
... a Clint Eastwood/Dirty Harry-esque version of or even "Dirty Harry" meets DEATH WISH (the Charles Bronson starring vigilante classic) although it is more in spirit closer to its sequel "Death Wish 2" (1982) as well as, if not also, an amalgamation of such female vengeance themed classics as "I Spit on Your Grave" (1978) or Abel Ferrara's "Ms .45" (aka "Angel of Vengeance") (1981) and I must admit, although it is a decent and OK effort, it is overall a far cry from especially the original Dirty Harry and doesn't quite reach the heights of either the original "Death Wish" or "Ms .45" and all, and at times, it does feel a little tired, with some rather goofy elements (particularly involving the dogs here) and the pacing is a bit slow and Eastwood is solid but also looks and feels tired in a couple of scenes.
Still a decent 6/10 achievement but not really a great or a top quality sequel to Dirty Harry and Magnum Force and even The Enforcer were both better.
Style wise and thematically, well, yeah, see first paragraph. And I bet Eastwood has indeed seen most of those movies and felt at least partially inspired by them when directing and starring in this one.
