And here I am again this October. I plan to watch it this weekend. This one is so perfect for the Halloween season. I urge all to see it if they can!

I watched it yesterday for the first time in about 7 years ( I still have the VHS cooy that I taped off of HBO back in the late 1980s) It still holds up very well. The town that it takes place in reminds me of what my town use to look and feel like when I was a youngster. The cinematography is quite stunning in places and the film makers really captured the feel of Autumn, what it was like to be a child and wish you were older, what it was like to be older and wish that you were younger, and what it is like to live with and eventually learn how to deal with having a great deal of regret.

On a side note, I saw this movie in the theater (which no longer exists) with my mom and dad when it came put so the movie as a whole is very special to me.

You put that very nicely. The film captures all of what you have described.
I was newly married and in my mid 20's when this film came out in theaters. I remember seeing the trailers on TV. I had read the story in high school. The trailers said it was a Disney film and I was a bit surprised since I thought Bradbury's story lent it's self to horror. I must have dismissed it and had just about forgotten it until we had a VCR. I saw the movie at the rental store and brought it home.
In anyone else's hands it probably would have become a Horror movie.
In Disney's hands it became a wonderful work of art. It's everything you described. It brought me back to my childhood. Over the years, I shared it with my son. It has become a must see movie every October.
I only wish I had seen it as you did.... in the Theater!

I read the book in high school too. Of course I had already seen the movie multiple times by then so I was somewhat taken aback by how different that the two were in certain places. Although I'd have to read the book again to remember the differences now. The last time I read it I was in my early 20s which was 20 years ago now-that went fast.

This movie came out during what is known as Disney's Dark Age. It began somewhere in the 70s and ended in the late 80s. Some of the more notable films from this era are The Black Hole, The Watcher in The Woods, Dragonslayer, Night Crossing, Tron, The Black Cauldron and Return To Oz. I'm not sure if you are familiar with any of those films, but they all have a dark atmosphere that is similar to Something Wicked This Way Comes.

It's nice that you watch this with your son. I don't know if it's just me but it seems like not too many families share movie nights together anymore, and if they do someone is always either texting or looking up information about said movie on their phone... mmmmm, progress... :/
