Luke was supposed to turn evil after Vader dies and Han was supposed to die halfway through.

That was only one of the endings.
Another didn’t have Luke turning evil, but walking off alone into the sunset like a lone gunslinger/samurai.

The movie probably would have been a lot better if Gary Kurtz hadn’t left.
