Favorite Lines from Local Hero

Might as well list the entire screenplay - it's gold from beginning to end
# 1. And still my favorite "Well you need to buck up. Ya know, no one said it would be easy to be a millionaire." (I've quoted that so many times)
2. You can't eat scenery.
3. You speak a lot of sense for an oilman
4. I'll make a good Gordon, Gordan.
5. The world will weep with joy. Mr. Happer's found his comet. Hurray!
.........And so many, many more !!!!!!

reply

His name was Happer. He spelt it for me . . H-A-P-P . . . P-E-R.

reply

And . . .

(Down on the beach waiting for Happer and Ben's negotiations to finish)

Mac: Slainge, everybody.
Others (having just toasted in various languages): Hunh?
Mac: Slainge?
Others: Oh, aye, cheers!

Danny (around his comment noted earlier of "Mac was on top of the situation" re: Trudy the rabbit)
"There was every possibility of a full recovery."

reply

might not be exact:

"As long as they are bombing the beach, they cannot be bombing anywhere else. It's kind of comforting."

reply

All of these are great lines from a great movie, but I can't believe no one has mentioned (and I may not get this exactly right).....Ben: "I'm not sure there's a living to be made on these beaches."....Mac: "You'll be rich, Ben...you won't have to do anything.".....Ben: "Ah...we've all got to do something Mr Macintyre..."

reply

Danny: "Do you think they're at it up there?"
Mac: "No."

{later)

Danny: "Do you think Gordon and Stella do it every night?"
Mac: "Of course not."

reply

"It's red all over!!!"

"The beach has to be worked. Think of the state it would get into."

reply

My favorite isn't even a line. After admiring the baby in the stroller, the fellow asks, "Who's the father?" and all the men look at it other with a, "Search me! Is it you?" look on their faces.
