this movie is easily Top 10 Best Movies of ALL time......

Hi. I had to make an account here to post about this movie. This is my first post ever but I love and will respect this site.

I heard it was some more of a 'rare' movie, so I decided to watch it.

The first time I watched it, it did not hit me till the end of the movie how amazing it really was.

Upon the second watching I was in love with every aspect of this movie.

The music is breathtaking, and the storyline mysterious and brilliant.

This movie is really one of my all time top 10 favorite movies ever, EVER.

I cannot explain what the symbolism to me means, it is that great, and how I think this movie has inspired other movies and tv shows.

By Far, the best part of this movie is near the end, when the old man realizes through the love for his daughter, that this seemingly sort of 'good' evil entity demands he kill his daughter, and he realizes that it is evil and refuses to take the talisman out of the keep.. and the music kicks in. I am a man but this movie almost made me cry and that only happens in a very few movies.

I cannot believe I never heard of this movie before. It does not need to be remade because it is already perfect but a remake would be awesome if done right.

To hear that possibly 2 hours of footage was cut out of this movie breaks my heart and keeps me wondering. I love this movie, it is one of the best movies of ALL time. What it means to me I cannot explain, but the meaning and symbolism is astonding.

And at the VERY end of the movie..the old man has this look on his face like he knows who the purple eyed man is and then at the very end the main female role she looks back at the camera as saying that we are also the good and the evil. as if she is looking back at the hole in the keep but she is really looking at the camera at the viewer for them to decide if they are the evil(evil demon) or the light, (guy with purple eyes, who is creation or God itself in human form and a traveler of the universes)

Anyone else agree, mainly on that this is one of the best movies to ever grace the cinema world?

In case I can lead you to a lot of fun, are you aware the movie is based on a book by F. Paul Wilson ("The Keep")?
I'm sure the book is even better (second hand from $0,01):

It is the first instalment of a series called "The Adversary Cycle":

And it's a "prequel" in some way to Paul's famous "Repairman Jack" series, as this page hints. Note that 3 of "The Adversary Cycle" books belong to this series ("Rakoshi" is "The Tomb"'s original name):

BTW, that website is great if you like modern Lovecraftian horror/cosmic-horror. F. Paul Wilson is influenced by Lovecraft in the "Repairman Jack" Series as the series develops.

Thanks for the links! I read the book the year it was published and fell in love with it. The movie was Brilliant in my opinion. And like many in this thread, it is on my top 10 favorite list. It was the effective execution of the atmosphere, which was so much like the tone of the book, that I am in love with. I will be sure to check out the prequel you mentioned.

no, it isn't...

it is a crappy movie... it is fun to watch this sort of thing, but it is no where near the top. :)

No.

It has a good interesting premise and atmopshere and one of the coolest villains ever but is ruined by some poor editing. The movie completely broke at the point where the priest suddenly comes back inside the Keep and has gone completely mad, that point felt like they just threw about 40 minutes of footage or so away to me which is very unfortunate. It could have been a absolute classic but was ruined by the editing, short runtime and music that drowned the dialogue in some of the scenes.

The music is pretty cool but feels somewhat dated aswell, it definitely does get to the point where it feels overused to the point where the viewer gets exhausted from it. The "tick-tock music" towards the last bit with McKellan going towards the exit was so long it reached the point of being absolute absurd. There was quite some movies in the 80's-90s that tend to used too often overall though.

One of the more newer examples is a movie called "Arn the templar" the music in that movie or mini tv series is like from someon e who was stuck in the 80s and felt like it was made to drown out the cheap production value that it ultimately has against the big hollywood prodcutions. Its abysmal how its used in nearly every scene of that miniseries.

I love these two scenes too, striking images here...what a final, freeze frame shot!
