There are so many classic horror movies that have yet to see the shiny silver disc, so I wanted to know what horror film(s) the rest of you would like to see on DVD. If they've been released and gone out of print, put those down too. There's lots of them, but here are some I'd like to see get a DVD release.
- Curtains (1983) - The Burning (1981) - Ghostkeeper (1981) - The Hitcher (1986) [needs a re-release] - Prom Night (1980) [needs a re-release]
Hey guys, The Hitcher is on Warner Bros. DVD, but it needs a re-release. Also Monster Squad is coming to DVDin the next few months or so. I would love to see William Wesley's Scarecrows on DVD with widescreen transfer and a making of. I have that on VHS Uncut, so a DVD is a must. My Curtains VHS is about done, so a region free disc would be great. I would also like Blood Diner on DVD, I think I saw it on a website as an import, but no idea on a region. I am sure there are tons of older 70's and 80's movies that need to be revisited.
Peace, John.
"There's a broken up girl for every broken down boy"- Chicago
Wow, thanks for that! Is it an official release, because I thought the film never recieved one? Or does it have no copyrights (public domain), like Night of the Living Dead?
Hm... this is interesting. I may just have to buy it. Too bad I just bought a used VHS tape of it on ebay a few days ago.
"Pieces" is being planned by a company called "grindhouse" I believe. no idea when the official release date is.
"Blood Diner" was once planned by Anchor Bay but no one has been about to find the negatives or a usable print
"Curtains" is coming out in an all region DVD from some UK company. its fullscreen so it might just be VHS transfer
other ones I want officially
Night School Humungous To All A Good Night Night Warning Scream ('82) The Dorm That Dripped Blood The Prey The Burning Silent Madness Death Screams (House of Death) Final Exam crematorium (rare '85 slasher that never made it to theaters, barely got finished) Honeymoon Horror Whodunit (Island of death)
True, PRANKS is The Dorm That Dripped Blood but the problem is is that it the cut version and not the Uncut version that Media had out on VHS. I have both cuts and Media has more on screen violence while Pranks appears to have suffered the same fate as the original My Bloody Valentine and had all the more violent images cut out.
"SHE BREATHED ON ME! A DEAD PERSON BREATHED ON ME!!"
Curtains is definitely one of those titles I'm hoping fervently will be released on DVD! A few other notables include:
- Blood and Lace (1971) - Dark Night of the Scarecrow (1981) - Deadly Blessing (1981) - Don't Go to Sleep (1982) - The Ghoul (1975) - Home for the Holidays (1972) - Night Warning (1983) - The Redeemer: Son of Satan! (1978) - Rituals (1977) - The Screaming Woman (1972) - The Sender (1982) - Silent Scream (1980) - The Stranger Within (1974) - The Town That Dreaded Sundown (1976) - The Unseen (1981) [the R2 DVD looks like it was ripped from an old VHS tape]
- The Town that Dreaded Sundown (1976) - Curtains (1983) - Silent Scream - My Bloody Valentine (needs a re-release and UNCUT) (1981) - Dark Night of the Scarecrow (1981) - Prom Night (needs a re-release with EXTRAS) (1980) - Slaughter High (1986) - Happy Birthday to Me (needs a re-release with ORIGINAL MUSIC SCORE, EXTAS and UNCUT) (1980) - Terror Train (needs re-relase with EXTRAS) (1980) - Friday the 13th (needs re-release with EXTRAS and UNCUT) - April Fool's Day (needs re-release with EXTRAS)
I agree that we need uncut releases of Friday the 13th and My Bloody Valentine. Ideally, I'd prefer releases that have both the theatrical cuts and the unrated versions. Incidentally, I don't think that I'd like an uncut version of Friday the 13th Part 2 - I love the film, but I don't mind that the edited out the cheesy scene where the rotting head of Mrs. Voorhees opens its eyes...
And nice to know someone's with me on not only Curtains, but also Silent Scream, The Town that Dreaded Sundown, and Dark Night of the Scarecrow!
Eyes of Fire(1983) Blue Monkey(1987) Hide and Go Shriek(1988) Rituals(1977) The Dark(1994) The Pack(1977) Screams of a Winter Night(1979) Attack of the Beast Creatures(1985) The Boogens(1982) Blood Beach(1981) Death Ship(1980)
And I agree with most of the others already listed.
Hey, this guy's not gonna leak all over my ice cream, is he?
Time for an updated list - Code Red have a lot of my wants on their slate (The Unseen, Sweet 16, The Mutilator, Silent Scream, and Butcher Baker, Nightmare Maker), while MGM has let me down a bit - they retain the rights to some of those awesome 70's and 80's horrors with no announcements of releases (Blood and Lace The Town That Dreaded Sundown).
The following are my most requested yet to be announced:
American Nightmare Blood and Lace Curtains Eye in the Labyrinth The Ghoul Night School The Redeemer Rituals The Town That Dreaded Sundown
I'd also love these made for tv movies:
Crowhaven Farm Home for the Holidays Killdozer Don’t Go to Sleep
Yeah, I know--this is an old post...but it's funny to see that most of these "most wanted" movies still haven't been officially released on R1.
Here's my current most wanted DVDs:
Curtains (1983) Deadly Blessing (1981) Death Weekend (1976) Exposé (1976) Forced Entry (1975) Hospital Massacre (1982) Lady Stay Dead (1981) Mardi Gras Massacre (1978) Murder by Phone (1982) New Year's Evil (1980) Night of the Demon (1980) Night School (1981) Night Warning (1983) Nightmare (1981) Perfect Victims (1988) Satan's Blade (1984) Scream for Help (1984) The Dorm That Dripped Blood (1982) The Mutilator (1985) The Slayer (1982)
A few of these are slated for release either this year or next, but I won't hold my breath.
All good titles. Deadly Blessing has been released in Australia by Umbrella Entertainment - an excellent company - on an all-region disc. Only catch is that it's PAL... if you have a player that can convert PAL to NTSC you will be fine with this release.
Titles I would like to see in addition to your excellent list are...
American Nightmare Dark August Death Valley Haunts Screams Of A Winter Night Stone Cold Dead Voices Warlock Moon - UNCUT! Not that crap put out by SS/MB.
"You give me back my ball... I'll give you yours" - Viggo Mortensen in Renny Harlin's 'Prison'
