The voice over is annoying.

Jean Shepard was on radio for nearly 50 years! The guy knew how to narrate

For me it's more about the content and numbers of the voiceover in 15 min than the voice.

One does not simply enjoy A Christmas Story if they have no nostalgic tie to it.

After his wife died Denethor banned Christmas in Gondor.

I guess if you don't already know Jean Shepherd and have some affection for his work, it's just a very different film for you.

I've never received so many responses that actually express pity and authentic sadness because I didn't like a particular movie 😲

I hate to be nitpicky but that is not voice over in "A Christmas Story". It's narration.
But I agree that sometimes narration can be annoying. It depends on the actor who is doing the narration. Jean Shepard, the writer of the stories on which "A Christmas Story" is based was fine for this film.
But I think that "The Shawshank Redemption" would be nowhere near as good a film with Morgan Freeman's magnificent narration.
