"Not a finger!" What did that mean anyway?

Im watching Christmas Story for DVD with the commentary track on and watched the part where the mother breaks the lamp.

When the father says "Not a finger!" what does that mean exactly?

Strange. Someone I know just recently expressed confusion at what he meant by "not a finger" which in turn made me confused as it always seemed plainly obvious. He's saying "not a finger" as in don't touch his broken lamp while he goes out to buy some glue.
