I always picture this as the kid sitting there in the middle of his TV show (although, now thinking about the decade, that might not be right) and his mom coming out of nowhere after yelling over the phone and smacking the crap out of him! Poor kid doesn't even know what he did :)

I know what some probably think...was it that big a deal? All that over a word? In 1930s America? Absolutely. Adults would positively freak out if they ever heard a child utter a profanity.

I always found it funny when Ralphie's mom asks him where he heard that word and he says in his head "Now I heard that word about ten times a day from my old man," but then he just blurts out "Schwartz!" and then the mom calls Schwartz's mom and asks "Do you know where he heard it?" and you hear the other mother through the receiver say, "Probably from his father."
