How did you first discover this movie?
I've first discovered this movie on TBS during the part where Ralphie's mother punishes him by sending him to bed and her yelling at him not to give her that look

shareIn 1986 on HBO. I was working my way through college by working part-time at a telemarketing company - and yeah, working there sucked, and sucked hard. But the assistant manager was a young guy, and he invited a bunch of us to his apartment for a Christmas party. (Not the annoying actual manager, though.)
As the party was winding down a bit, somehow, this appeared on TV. The assistant manager said, "Oh, man, this movie is hilarious - you gotta watch this!" Well, the half dozen of us still left were skeptical, but filled with, ahem, holiday cheer, so we said, "What the hell."
We sat there and watched the whole thing and laughed our asses off. We knew right then and there, instantly, that this was a great, great movie.
I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.
I first saw it in the late 1990s. I stopped by a Christmas party some friends were having and they were all excited to be watching the movie. I had no clue what they were talking about - I had never heard of it! I didn't think it was anything special at the time either. But I have since seen it a couple more times it has grown on me. Now I catch at least part of it every Christmas.
shareAbout 10 years ago when it was on TBS. my parents insisted I watch it. Glad I did.
shareDecember 23rd, 1983 I go to the small movie theatre in my hometown to see this new Christmas movie. I am the only person in the theatre. No one else comes in. I had a private screening of A Christmas Story and I was a lifelong fan of the film. When I left the theatre it was snowing (which was unusual for North Georgia in December). Perfection. I've shown it to my husband, who is English, and he doesn't quite get it but I will try again this year.

I saw it in its first run in theaters when it was released. It was released in the middle of summer, I think, and we couldn't imagine why they chose to do that. I don't remember when it started showing up on TV, but faithfully watch it every year. Although the movie takes place somewhat before my time (many disagree, but I think it's set right after WWII), it looks exactly like I remember things looking in the 50s when I grew up: the cars, the school desks, kids wearing galoshes, etc. We had a big shopping area in my neighborhood and the major department store (any Chicago southsiders here remember Gately's?) that had Christmas decorations in the windows...not as nice as downtown, but a lot closer.
