How did you first discover this movie?

I've first discovered this movie on TBS during the part where Ralphie's mother punishes him by sending him to bed and her yelling at him not to give her that look

I think I was about 5 or 6, in 1990. My dad had a habit of taping movies off the TV (this was way before the days of DVRs of course), and one VHS tape had Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and A Christmas Story on it.

I watched the heck out of that tape, and to this day I associate those three movies (okay, so Grinch isn't technically a movie) with each other.

My girlfriend (now wife) saw in the theatre when it was released in 1983.

Weird thing was, as much as we love it now, we almost walked out during the first 15 minutes!

Out of curiosity, what was it about the first 15 minutes of the movie that you both disliked so much?

Early 90's superstations, I think used to play at least a dozen times in Dec not even waiting for Christmas Eve (the marathons hadn't become a thing yet, as far as I can remember).

Oddly, I remember it playing during daytime hours, even on school weekdays.

I believe I watched it with my parents when it was on TV and I've loved it ever since. I was about 8 or 9, I'd say.

Second run movie theater in January. I didn't think my soon to be wife was with me at the time. Must have been with my one friend.

Early 90's. I was just channel surfing one day in December maybe Christmas break from school or weekend. Caught the part with Black Bart kinda curious and before I knew it I wanted to watch it again and has been a favorite ever since. I was around 9 or 10 when I saw it

I saw this movie when it first came out on video (1984?). I was a kid at the time and wanted to see it so bad at the movies but instead of doing my chores, I snuck out to the video arcade with my friends so my parents barred me from going to see this movie. It was already gone from the theaters by the time I was allowed out again...

I caught it on HBO in the mid 80's, and watched it almost every time it came on. My mom thought it was silly and wasn't a fan then, but now it's not Christmas if we don't watch it.
