When I was a kid, I thought Mama was a man in drag.

I remember being very young (I was 7 in the final year) and something looked off. I could tell it wasn't an old lady. I thought it was a man in drag and that was supposed to be a joke. At no point was I convinced that it was an old lady.

I knew who Vicki Lawrence was from The Carol Burnett Show before they spun off the character into her own show.

That was done before I was born. They never showed any replays either.

Well it's a younger woman in old lady drag. So your perception was legitimate.

I don't think I thought it was a woman because I assumed they would have just got an old woman to play the role. She looked weird so I just thought part of the comedy was that it was a male actor playing a female role.

The funny thing is that Vicki Lawrence looks like a woman, but in the granny clothes, she totally looks like a dude.
