was shockingly bad. But I blame the director for not getting the performance out of her. Is that the best take he could choose?

Yeah, that's pretty weak, but the writing doesn't help her out much.

Wow, you didn't like it? I thought that was one of the best scenes in the film. Although, I don't go into Rocky films expecting great performances. They're fun movies but not exactly filled with great acting. Although Burgess Meredith was always good as Mickey. That guy was a real actor...

IMO the flaw is the writing more than her acting.

It’s a melodramatic scene but works thanks to Talia & Stallone’s emotion. It feels genuine, if a little over the top.

Thanks. You can never underestimate the difference that good actors make to a film. If it was Brie Larson yelling at Stallone then the scene would be insufferable.
