Much better ending for Apollo Creed

Anybody else think so.

I like Rocky 4 and I LOVE Drago, but still don't you think its a shame he went out like that.

He gets such an undignified death in Rocky 4 where as in Rocky 3 he's a cool guy who takes his defeat like a pro and mentors the world champ.

Its good they had his son carry on his legacy.

He shouldn't of died. I've read Stallone even regrets killing him off. He was a cool guy all round.
I love "Creed", but I didn't like how Coogler made Apollo out to be a cheat, and having a baby to a different woman.

I'm not surprised. His death if anything weighs down Rocky 4 as it stretches its credibility even more than the Robot.

If it had just been a curb stomp and he had put him in the hospital and made it so that he could never box again that would have been enough, but having him die and Drago go "if he dies, he dies" just makes it seem too mad. He'd be in prison for murder, he kept punching him after the ref tried to intervene.

Also why was Apollo such a pussy? I get that he wasn't quite prepared for that, but still he is meant to be Rocky's equal and he was killed within two rounds whilst Rocky lasted 15?

Not being able to box again would have been much worse for Apollo than death. He was a fighter and he died like a fighter, without giving up the fight he couldn't win.

I always thought his death was pretty impactful to be honest. Maybe it's because I was a little kid I saw it, but it always got me. I don't think it's undignified at all.

What do you mean takes his defeat like a pro? His motivation was for another shot at Rocky.

Creed went out like a fighter, the way he wanted. I don't think his death was a mistake, that it weighed down Rocky IV or that it stretched its credibility. Apollo chose his fate. He knew he was going to lose but continued because he preferred dying in the ring to living another 40 years out of it. Fighting was not just his profession but his life. His decision may have been fueled by pride, but he was a very proud man. That was his way and it would have been out of character for him to give up.

Stallone shouldn't regret killing off Apollo. Apollo's death was the biggest tragedy in the series and incited Rocky to fight for Apollo's honor as well as his county's. After Micky died, Apollo became his manager, trainer and best friend. Had he only ended up in the hospital, Rocky would not have found the focus and determination to train as hard as he needed to beat Ivan.

He went out like a joke of a fighter. After all of his cockiness at the press conference, and the extravagant song and dance routine before the fight, we find out he's not even in Drago's league, like Mike Tyson in his prime fighting Richard Simmons. It's like watching those "Pros vs. Average Joes" compilations on YouTube, such as this one:

"Top 10 Idiots Who Challenged Professional Fighters" - https://youtu.be/FpLa_C-mG-c.

It made Creed look like a fool, and why would anyone want to look like a fool?

"Stallone shouldn't regret killing off Apollo."

Yes, he should. Not only did it deprive us of a great character, but it ruined the legacy of that character as well. He didn't go out like a hero, he went out like a bum. And to add insult to injury, in the movie "Creed" (2015) they turned him into an adulterer too.

Sadly, I agree. Good summation.

I've thought about this and realize that Stallone used Creed's death to both motivate Rocky and the audience to hate Drago even more than they would have otherwise. Given that, here was my idea:

Creed and Drago have a classic fight, with perhaps Creed even leading on points. Creed goes down and while he's being counted and getting back on his feet, Drago nails him with an unchecked uppercut. Creed falls over and slams his head into the floor.

At the hospital, the doctors inform the press that Creed isn't expected to survive and if so, would live in a vegetative state. Rocky leaves for Moscow to train as before.

Shortly after Adrian arrives in Russia, the KGB agents gleefully inform Rocky that Creed died.

Story proceeds at that point the same as filmed.

When arriving back in the states, Rocky finds out that the KGB lied to him when he discovers Creed at the airport to greet him on crutches.

One problem with that change include not being able to use Creed's trainer in the fight in Russia because he would tell Rocky that Creed was expected to survive. I guess Rocky would have to have been on his own and use Russian corner men for the fight.

The thing I love about Rocky is you can stop anywhere along the line and it's a great ending to the saga. One and done movie, brilliant. Part 2, also a great ending. Rocky 3, perfect trilogy. Rocky 4, it's getting nuts, but world saved. Rocky 5, back to where it all started. Cool. Rocky 6, life fully lived. Alright. Creed. Next generation, become his mentor, full circle. Rocky franchise is as big or as small as you want it to be. There's no hanging story threads. I wish more series were made like this.

It would have been a nice trilogy and a good end if it was just 3 movies. I pretend 5 doesn't exist, but I do enjoy 4 ever though it is all montages that movie it is the worst out of the 4 but entertaining.

rocky 4 is legendary rocky movie and apollo is just side man in rocky saga. he was not missed as drago is better villains.
