Is it me, or is this movie a mess?

I get that a lot of people think that's stupid funny, and a lot of stupid funny movies are great. But this movie is mostly just stupid, and it feels like not that much thought was put into the writing.

It's a bunch of unfocuses shannigans, one not being that much related to the other. But the thing that makes it not work for me, is the abrupt shifts in tone. For example, Tim hates Mickey and wants to be beat him up cause Mickey is Jewish. Tim's friends do not agree with Tim's Jew hating issues. Yet when Tim fights Mickey, his friends are constantly cheering him on in the fight, even though they don't agree with what he is doing.

And what is this Jew issue subplot doing in this sex comedy that has nothing to do with such a theme?

And there are these scenes of cops busting the kids balls, for drinking and things like that. Not just Porky's brother, but other random cops as well. But we don't want to see cops busting their balls. We want to see the kids get into trouble and get away with it. But in a more focused more sharper movie.

It's not just not as sharp as American Pie, or even Animal House for that matter. What do you think?

It's definitely not just you. I went into this expecting an uproarious comedy, but as I was watching it, I thought to myself "where's all the humour?".

There were a few funny parts, but I was expecting something hilarious along the lines of 'Animal House', but I just thought it was pretty average. Way over-rated in my opinion.

Funny, I always felt that way about "Animal House" - massively overrated. One of those films that's old and has a lot of people you recognize, so you feel obliged to pretend like it's really funny and holds up well over time. Admittedly, "Porky's" was a childhood favorite of mine, but IMO the idea of young guys tying to get laid (some for the first time, in Pee Wee's case) holds true and resonates from generation to generation, even though the modern, proper PC way of life may be to pretend that it doesn't. Either way, scenes like the one with Balbricker in the principal's office will always have me in tears.

I totally get some people not getting Animal House.

I also don't love animal House. It doesn't hold up nearly as well as Caddy shack or Blazing Saddles. I didn't think it was that great back in the day.

Yeah, even a teen seeing it, I thought it’s only redeeming quality was the nudity. Based on word of mouth hype I had expected it to be hilarious but, as a comedy, it was a disappointing.

It's outrageous. Think of it from the timeframe its set in and don't try to judge it by today's standards.

That's exactly what I did. I watch mostly older films anyway. I still found it very average.

1) Brian was the Jewish character, not Mickey.
2) Its not a particularly good movie and I don't think it was well received critically. But for whatever reason it became almost an instant cult classic in the sex-comedy genre and for me it's one of those comforting movies that I can enjoy without putting much thought into.

Might sound silly but I think in part the popularity or cult status is the name itself, "Porky's" I don't know it just works. The other reason would be that shower scene where the boys are peeping on the girls, that is pretty classic male fantasy stuff there.

I don't think it is a great film or anything but often a film only needs a hook and a classic scene or two to end up becoming infamous.

The only thing I remember about this movie is the shower scene and Mike Hunt.
