Kids by Larry Clark. Also, I have to recommend two films by Paul Morrissey, from the Warhol factory. Trash (1969) starring heroin addict/ hustler Joe Dalessandro, and Heat (1972) also starring Joe. They're very gritty, perverse, with surprising performances. They are also astonishingly funny.

I just watched Made in Britain last night, so I'm still reeling from the aftershock. What it most reminds me of is Gaspar Noe's I Stand Alone. The main character of that film, The Butcher, was much older than Trevor, but was just as nihilistic and unreachable.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned The 400 Blows , by Francois Truffaut. Nothing to do with london or British subcultures, but like MIB deals with the failure of educational and reformatory insitutions and its consequences on our youth(this time in post-war France, with a much younger and innocent boy). Not that gritty, but realistic nonetheless.

Especially surprised nobody has yet mentioned 'The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner'. It's about a Northern kid who ends up in Borstal, one of the quintessential 1960's "Kitchen Sink" films.

Can't believe no ones said romper stomper with Russell Crowe

except that someone did say Romper stomper on the first page of this thread. I look at RS as almost the Australian version of American history x
