I think it might come from some of the documentaries about the real Iranian Embassy siege. I've seen a couple documentaries with interviews with the real SAS commandos and some talk about "instinctive shooting" and how they are not really aiming and instead just moving toward the target and firing on full automatic. The SAS in that raid were not trying to do a "double-tap" and headshot like a lot of special forces talk about today. Some of the terrorists in the embassy were hit over 30 times. Even if an MP5 has a 30 round magazine, these guys were getting hit by more than one shooter at the same time and spraying the target with everything to make sure they're dead. So I think the film makers might have tried to show that because except for the apartment scene when the SAS have handguns, during the embassy siege it shows them firing a lot at the targets. I just think it actually gives this movie a little more accuracy to that event instead of showing the SAS only shoot someone 2 or 3 times perfectly, like they do in every movie now.
Well , having played online shooty games against other people , I am now clearly a qualified expert.
Lemme tell you spray and pray dosent work . precision does. and then only roughly 50% of the time if your opponent also has an mp5 . less in my case.
Perhaps, but sitting on a couch knowing that no matter what you can reset the game if you are killed is a lot different to actually being in a real combat situation.
that is very very true. I hope FPS games where you play Other people at least teach the players that when facing an even enemy you will lose 50% of the time - unlike in the films where rambo or some seal team will blast away , kill 100s of enemys and be home in time for supper and cigars.
That said I think you missed my point. I suggest that in real life (as well as the games) some degree of aiming is helpful. not least because you dont want to spend half your time changing mags - assuming you could carry enough of them.
I get your point. Not a lot of people know that even if firing a heavy general purpose machine gun (for real or in a game) that you are still supposed to fire in short aimed bursts. Otherwise you just spray bullets everywhere.
I have seen doco's on the Princess Embassy siege and the SAS were told to leave none of the terrorists alive. They were also very keen to do their job and very well trained. I guess in the end it was play time for them and perhaps under different circumstances they would have restricted themselves.
