During the scene where a guy was robbing Brad at the Kwik-E-Mart, is it true that if this had happened today the robber could file a lawsuit against Brad and possibly win as well as avoiding jail time?
I doubt it because at the moment Brad through the coffee, the robber was holding a gun pointed at him which most reasonable juries would likely conclude was self defense against assault with a deadly weapon. However, if the robber had turned to leave and was heading for the door and Brad then threw the coffee at him burning him badly, it's possible the robber could successfully sue under the grounds Brad was no longer in imminent danger at the point he threw the coffee. Still may be a tough sell but it's possible.
