Does anyone watch this movie these days?

No, it never has. I like Close Encounters more. Close Encounters was boring when I first saw it as a teenager in the 80's, but I've learned to appreciate its strengths later on. E.T. on the other hand has never really taken off but always felt like a mediocre children's film. Even as a kid when I first saw it. The first and last 10 minutes are quite good, though. I like to watch those parts when it's on television.

Yes, I do. It will always be one of my favourites. On the other hand, I must admit that my children do not like a lot the movie
