She let's her kids smoke, swear, grab knifes, drive plus not to forget home alone.

I do not think so, she was a single mother. Did the kids smoke? I have not seen this in the movie.

Even if they did, when I was a kid you could take a note from your parents to the store and they would sell you cigarettes. They didn't even raise the age to 18 where I am until I was 17.

You are right...in the past I bought also tobacco for somebody else before I was 18.

The swearing. Smoking and knives I agree with. But in my country, at 10 or 15 it was ok to leave us alone for a few hours. It's not a big deal.

"She let's her kids smoke"

No kid was shown smoking in this movie. There was a lit cigarette sitting in an ashtray but no one is shown even touching it, let alone smoking it. It could have been the mother's cigarette for all we know.
