To be 100% honest, the first time I saw this, I thought Nyman's score was extremely annoying. I also didn't like the film overall that much.
However, years later I saw this film again. This time I loved everything about it, in particulalrly Nyman's score. I don't know if it was the few years added some maturity to me, if I knew more about Greenaway's work as a whole by then, or if I was just more in the mood for it...but in my second veiwing I "got" this movie.
Oh...I dod feel the music is purposly obtrusive. A reoccuring style element in a lot of Greenaway's work, even without Nyman.
Anyway, glad I gave this movie a second chance. It really deserved it.
