4 year lifespan

Wasn't it too expensive and time consuming to make a replicant just for 4 years of usage?

Maybe they should have given them more time... at least a decade.

Thoughts?

It sounds from Tyrell’s explanation to Batty that 4 years is the optimum they could achieve, bc all the methods Batty suggested (and presumably more) were tested and ended up w the replicant’s biology failing. 4 years wasn’t a design choice, it was the best they could do.

Yeah, this makes sense when thinking about the movie again. Thanks.

We do not know how pricey replicants are, but it is safe to assume they were VERY pricey indeed considering the wealth of Tyrell Corporation. However, it is also safe to assume that those who bought and used them were also extremely wealthy due to the work they are usually involved in, like off-earth mining or warfare. That considered, and also the possibility they expire due to hazardous workspace conditions prematurely, the 4 year life span might not be a problem at all.

It has to be 4 years.

It was enough for any tour of duty. It was enough to make sure these human beings don't develop and realize they aren't the "other" that they were told.

Wasn't the FOUR YEARS, just for the most recent type?

Though... one of htem was just a "labor" type... so that implies the cost was NOT too high...

Just have to say the next to last one, was a member of a "kick kill squad", and I want to know about a society that needs THAT!!!????
