Los Angeles

Okay, this film was made in 1982, and supposedly it took place in 2019. It's really taking a leap to suppose Los Angeles would look like it did in the film in 2019. I grew up in L.A. and to think of it so futuristic is laughable. Still, it was a great film.

2019 was placeholder! Not an exat year!

I'm taking it for an exact year, as the intro to the movie stated.

Almost every film set decades into the future risks looking out of date or too unrealistic by time the year they were set in actually arrives.

Here’s the thing, Blade Runner is set in a dystopian Los Angeles (cyberpunk, man). There’s a difference. They weren’t attempting to predict the future so much as they were trying make an alternate 2019; same goes for the new Blade Runner. And in all fairness, 30+ years ago many did think the idea of “hover” cars, for example, would be a reality by now. In terms of technology and certain world issues, a few things in Blade Runner did hold up.

The film’s entire look is amazing.

Thank you! That makes perfect sense.
