The climax was unnecessary

Annie climbing on the bridge was not a smart move. What did she think would happen when she got to the top? There was no top! And then she purposefully goes over the edge and lets herself hang there. And this is supposed to be a sweet musical, yet they have to have it where a grown man tries to drop a little girl off a bridge. That's why I like the 1999 version better. It was like the stage musical. It's almost like the movie came up with this ending to stray away from the stage version.

Agree but I think they were trying to redeem Miss Hannigan, having her save Annie by refusing to let Rooster kill her.

SPOILER:

Miss Hannigan is at the party at the end riding an elephant when she should be in prison for fraud and kidnapping.

I disagree. From the start of the film to the end it was clear that the filmmakers were going all out with what they wanted for the film. There were acrobat girls shown hanging from the 3rd storey fire escape and I'm not sure if they used body doubles for when the actors rode that dangerous-looking autocopter, so making the climax to scare the audience (AND CARE FOR ANNIE) was logical. Even if you thought it was unnecessary, you have to admit the actors had guts to pull off those stunts! We're not even sure whether they had harnesses or not. In an interview Aileen Quinn said that they made her climb the replica of the bridge in the studio that was 200 feet tall! I mean, do you see how bold they were? That was awesome! The actors should have been commended for their stunts too.

well what did you expect. Annie just like any other old 1980s movie from back then they always had to end up dark and scary whether at the end of the movie or during the middle of the movie.

So dont frikkin act surprised
